Breast augmentation immediately enhances breast size and shape. However, it takes time for the final results to appear. Knowing what to expect will let you confidently plan your procedure.
Most patients who visit the Las Vegas plastic surgery practice of Dr. Stephen Miller are eager to spend swimsuit season with fuller breasts. That means scheduling breast augmentation surgery around this time of year. It isn’t until the three-month mark that the bulk of the healing process is typically complete.
Our plastic surgeon understands that you want to enjoy your new look as soon as possible. That’s why we have blogs about going to the beach, traveling, and sunbathing after breast augmentation. Below, you’ll find an overview of the breast augmentation recovery timeline.
Breast Augmentation Recovery Timeline
In general, the recovery process tends to follow a few distinct stages:
- Immediately after surgery: You’ll feel sore and disoriented right after breast augmentation. Plan to get a ride home and take it easy for the rest of the day.
- Week one: It’s normal to experience discomfort during the first few days. After that, you can probably get by with over-the-counter painkillers. If you have a desk job, you might be able to return to work after seven days. Make sure to attend your follow-up visit.
- Week two to six: You can gradually resume light exercise and other normal activities at this point. Avoid anything too strenuous or demanding. Continue to avoid submerging your incisions in bathtubs, pools, hot tubs, lakes, or oceans. Your breasts will settle into a more final shape and position as healing progresses during this stage of the recovery.
- Full recovery: Complete healing can take up to a year. Your scars will continue to fade, and any residual swelling will dissipate during this time. Be patient with yourself.
