If you have unwanted deposits of excess fat that won’t go away no matter how much you diet or exercise, it can be incredibly frustrating. Perhaps you just gave birth and want to regain your pre-pregnancy body, or are trying to complete your weight-loss journey. Stubborn areas of fat shouldn’t hold you back from that.

Ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL) can help you attain the body you’ve worked so hard for. You’ve probably heard of liposuction. Maybe you’ve even considered it. UAL can help eliminate fat that traditional liposuction can’t, provide you with a smooth recovery, and give you a body you’re proud to show off.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF UAL?

UAL can improve your life in a number of ways, from improving your physical appearance to increasing your self-confidence:

  • Slimmer, more contoured appearance
  • Higher self-esteem and improved body image
  • Fat never returns after it’s removed

HOW IS UAL DIFFERENT FROM TRADITIONAL LIPOSUCTION?

During liposuction, your surgeon will make incisions near the fat deposits that you want to remove. Then, they’ll insert a thin tube called a cannula into the incisions and use it to suck out the fat.

UAL uses a special cannula. It emits ultrasonic energy that liquefies the fat before it’s suctioned out. This makes the fat much easier to remove, so the suction is more gentle. Liquefaction can also get rid of fibrous fat, or fat rolls, far easier than traditional liposuction can.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR UAL?

Ideal candidates for UAL:

  • Are at or near their target weight
  • Are in good overall health
  • Have good skin elasticity
  • Don’t have a lot of loose, excess skin
  • Have realistic expectations for their results

Additionally, UAL candidates shouldn’t smoke. If you do smoke, you must be willing to quit prior to surgery and throughout your recovery. It’s also important to note that UAL is not a weight-loss procedure. If you’re obese or overweight, UAL will not help you. Instead, if you’ve already lost weight through diet and exercise, the procedure could be the capstone on your transformation.

RECOVERY AFTER UAL

After your UAL procedure, you’ll be fitted with a compression garment to help hold your dressings and sutures in place, reduce swelling, and increase blood circulation. When you’re driven home after your surgery, you should rest on comfortable pillows and bedding.

Liposuction has a relatively light recovery, and recovery from UAL is generally quicker because the suction is more gentle than traditional liposuction. You’ll be able to return to work within a couple of days and resume all regular activities after about two weeks.
