Profound® Non-Surgical Facelift vs. Traditional Facelift

When people think of the places they most want to reduce signs of aging, they immediately think of the face. There are many procedures, surgical and non-surgical, capable of achieving facial rejuvenation. One you might not have heard of before, however, is the Profound® Non-Surgical Facelift.

This ground-breaking technique uses a combination of minimally invasive treatments to lift and tighten your face, instead of the traditional scalpels and sutures. With the advent of this new treatment, you may be inclined to wonder: Why choose facelift surgery?

Despite the benefits of Profound, traditional surgery may be the better option for your goals and expectations. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stephen Miller is happy to review your facelift options during a complimentary consultation at our office in Las Vegas.

WHAT IS PROFOUND® NON-SURGICAL FACELIFT?

The Profound technique combines two safe, proven non-surgical treatments that are tolerated well by most patients:

  • Microneedling: During microneedling, a series of tiny needles make small punctures in your skin.
  • Radio frequency (RF) energy: Bursts of radio waves penetrate tissue below the skin, encouraging natural production of youth-enhancing molecules like collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin.

The combined microneedling and RF treatment lasts for around 45 minutes. Microneedles will make tiny openings in the skin about the size of a pin-prick (2 mm-4 mm). Then, radio frequency energy will be immediately delivered to these freshly opened portions of the skin.

Separately, microneedling and RF energy are both already used for non-surgical treatments of the face and body. When performed in tandem, they are able to achieve exceptional facial rejuvenation results.

HOW IS A TRADITIONAL FACELIFT DIFFERENT FROM PROFOUND® NON-SURGICAL FACELIFT?

Both a traditional facelift and Profound® Non-Surgical Facelift are capable of addressing multiple concerns of facial aging, including:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Sagging of the skin
  • Loss of volume
  • Double chin

One of the biggest differences is in the technique. A facelift is an invasive surgical procedure lasting several hours, whereas Profound® Non-Surgical Facelift can be completed in under an hour. During facelift surgery, Dr. Miller makes incisions that allow him to adjust muscles and tissue, remove unwanted fat, and reduce excess skin to rejuvenate the face. Treatment with Profound is literally skin-deep.

Based on these differences, the recovery for each procedure is quite different. With Profound, you may experience redness, irritation, and swelling, but you can largely resume your normal routine after the treatment. Recovery from facelift surgery, on the other hand, includes activity restrictions lasting several weeks.

After both Profound® Non-Surgical Facelift and facelift surgery, it will take several weeks of healing before your results become visible. The duration of results varies:

  • Profound® Non-Surgical Facelift: Approximately 3 years; followup treatments may be necessary to maintain results
  • Facelift surgery: 10 years or more

Ultimately, the facial rejuvenation procedure you choose depends on the results you want to achieve, as well as personal and health considerations when it comes to surgical and non-surgical treatment.
