Did you know that Nevada recently passed a law that you must be a Physician, Physician Assistant, RN or Advanced Practice RN to inject Botox and Fillers. Dentists and Podiatrists may inject Botox and Filler only after they have completed special training. The new law also states that injections can only be done in a Medical facility or a professional medical office. The new law goes into effect on July 1, 2017.

  1. any person other than a physician, physician assistant, dentist, registered nurse, advanced practice registered nurse or podiatric physician from injecting a neuromodulator derived from Clostridium botulinum, a neuromodulator that is biosimilar to or the bioequivalent of such a neuromodulator or dermal or soft tissue fillers; (2) such persons from delegating such injection to an unauthorized person; and (3) any person from injecting a neuromodulator derived from Clostridium botulinum, a neuromodulator that is biosimilar to or the bioequivalent of such a neuromodulator or dermal or soft tissue fillers outside his or her scope of practice or in a location other than a medical facility or the office of an authorized medical professional. Sections 3.3 and 7.2 of this bill require the Board of Dental Examiners of Nevada and the State Board of Podiatry, respectively, to prescribe training for dentists and podiatric physicians, as applicable, which must be completed before a dentist or podiatric physician is authorized to inject such neuromodulators or dermal or soft tissue fillers.

In 2008 Nevada’s Board of Health adopted the regulation saying all health care providers must not administer medications from single-dose vials to multiple patients. Which means that we have to purchase 50 unit vials of Botox and it can only be used on a single patient. If you only get 20 units for your frown, the doctor has to pay Allergan for use of a 50 u vial and throw the rest away. Nevada is one of the only states to have this regulation. California and other states do not have to follow this.
